The League of Provinces of the Philippines (LPP) met on Nov 29 for the implementation details of its "Adopt a Family" program, wherein unaffected provinces of the earthquake and Typhoon Yolanda will provide (a) welfare support for the disasters' displaced families moving into other provinces, and (b) jobs and welfare support for the families residing in the affected provinces but are unable to provide income for their families.
Gov. Alfonso Umali, Jr. of Oriental Mindoro, President of both the Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines and LPP, led the initiative, which he conceptualized as a way of complementing the national government and civil society's efforts towards relief, recovery, and rehabilitation of the affected localities.
LPP is a major league member of the Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines.
