Statement on the Killing of Aparri Vice Mayor Rommel G. Alameda

19 February 2023

The Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines condemns in the strongest possible terms this brutal killing of Aparri Vice-Mayor Rommel G. Alameda. The vice mayor and five of his companions were ambushed and killed by unidentified men allegedly clad in police uniforms and riding in a government vehicle in Bagabag, Nueva Vizcaya. This cowardly act executed in broad daylight is a sobering call for vigilance and a cry for restoring peace and order.

Vice-Mayor Alameda is a friend to many of his colleagues and was well-loved by the residents of Aparri. We demand swift and immediate justice to assure our people that the law is able to protect them and to show criminals that the law will quickly subdue them. The people must not cower in fear or be inured to these crimes and criminals must not be invincible.
ULAP, for its part, is even more encouraged to continue actively pursuing efforts against criminality and lawlessness to keep our people safe and secure, given that another incident recently happened in Mindanao involving Lanao del Sur Governor Mamintal Adiong, Jr.

The ULAP National Executive Board Members and Member-Leagues express their deepest and sincerest condolences to the families of Vice Mayor Almeda and his companions and to the people of Aparri.
