CUA LAUDS PNP FOR CRIME RATE DROP

Quirino governor Dax Cua lauded the Philippine National Police for its efforts, as the crime rate in the country from August to November this year dropped by 7.58 percent.

"Congratulations to the PNP for their efforts to maintain order and safety in our communities. Your tireless work reassures Filipino families that they are safe from the clutches of criminal elements who would cause them harm," said Cua.

The PNP reported recently that 12,031 focus crimes were recorded across the country from Aug. 3 to Nov. 30, down from the 13,018 crimes posted during the same period last year.

Luzon registered the biggest decline with 8.67 percent from 7,568 to 6,912 crimes. Mindanao recorded from 2,696 to 2,519, or a decrease of 6.57 percent, while the Visayas dropped from 2,754 to 2,600, or 5.59 percent.

The focus crimes are murder, homicide, physical injury, robbery, theft, vehicle theft, motorcycle theft, and rape.

Cua, who also serves as the president of the Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines, underscored the role played by greater collaboration between police and local government units in the drop in the crime rate.

"Mahalaga ang pagtutulungan ng mga awtoridad at mga LGU sa katiwasayan ng ating mga pamayanan. We hope that our ties will only strengthen, as we push for a further decrease in the crime rate which is crucial in both local and national development," he said.

He also called on the police to exert extra effort to ensure that the upcoming holidays could be carried out without a hitch.

"One last push po tayo for this year, umaasa ako na doble-kayod tayo para masigurong makakapagdiwang tayo ng Kapaskuhan nang ligtas sa kapahamakan," said the governor.

Besides preventing crime, police presence would be crucial in guaranteeing that the holiday rush in public places like malls and transport hubs would not lead to pandemonium, Cua added.

According to the PNP, it has deployed at least 192,000 police personnel nationwide for the Christmas season.
